PMU Tips (55)--The difference between Microneedling and PMU and the treatment purposes for different universal microneedle depths

The difference between Microneedling and PMU and the treatment purposes for different needle depths popumicrobeauty

1. Microneedling and PMU (permanent makeup) differ in several key aspects.

Microneedling is primarily used for skin repair and improvement, while PMU focuses on pigment implantation and color enhancement.

In terms of depth, microneedling is adjustable and generally remains in more superficial layers, whereas PMU requires more precise and controlled pigment deposition at specific depths.

Microneedling does not necessarily involve pigment use, while PMU always requires pigments.

Additionally, microneedling causes relatively mild trauma compared to PMU, which involves slightly deeper and more targeted skin penetration.

2. Different universal microneedle depths correspond to different treatment purposes and skin layers. A depth of 0.25–0.5 mm targets the epidermis and is commonly used for product infusion and brightening. A depth of 0.5–1.0 mm reaches the superficial dermis, making it suitable for improving pores and fine lines.
At 1.0–2.0 mm, the treatment works on the dermal layer and is typically used for acne scars and deeper texture concerns.
Depths of 2.0 mm and above reach deeper tissue layers and are generally reserved for medical-grade treatments performed by trained professionals.
