PMU Tips(34)-- The characteristics of mature skin and PMU Techniques for Mature Skin

The characteristics of mature skin and PMU Techniques for Mature Skin popumicrobeauty
1. The characteristics of mature skin
If you’re a beginner or already performing semi-permanent procedures, you may notice that a significant portion of your clients have mature skin. That’s why it’s especially important to understand how to properly perform semi-permanent powder brows (Powder Brows) on mature skin. Generally, mature skin refers to skin that is 55 years and older. This type of skin tends to be thinner, less elastic, has more wrinkles, absorbs pigment less effectively, and is more prone to trauma. These characteristics make standard pigments and single-needle techniques more challenging to work with. For this skin type, Ombre Powder Brow is the most suitable technique.
2. PMU Techniques for Mature Skin

Recommended Needles: 0803RL, 1211CM, 1213CM, 1215CM

Larger or multi-needle setups are excellent because they help reduce skin trauma when working with highly diluted pigments. These grouped needles provide the grip needed to effectively implant pigment, whereas single needles can struggle and may potentially cause damage.

Single needles are ideal for detailed work, but they are best suited for younger, healthier skin. If your client has any of the following, a multi-needle approach is recommended:

  • Rough or sagging skin

  • Previously overworked brows

  • Skin damaged from multiple PMU sessions

  • A history of laser pigment removal

Technique Tips:

  • Work slowly and take your time.

  • Lower your machine speed to minimize trauma and help the pigment settle more evenly into the skin.
